Reminder: SR 109 set to close for three weeks in Hoquiam on March 22

Travelers who use State Route 109 between Hoquiam and Grays Harbor City will experience a detour starting Wednesday, March 22 at 7 a.m. The highway is set to close for three weeks during a project to stabilize the hillside.

Crews will remove trees of concern from the hillside. This work will help reduce the time it takes to clear the roadway after a slide.

Travelers will follow the signed 13-mile detour along US 101, Ocean Beach Road and Powell Road to get to Ocean Shores. Grays Harbor City residents and businesses should plan for an extra 30 minutes of travel time to get to and from Hoquiam.

What to expect before the closure
On Monday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 21, each day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., contractor crews working for the Washington Department of Transportation will alternate one lane of traffic on SR 109 west of the SR 109 Spur. This single lane closure allows crews to bring in equipment and install signs and temporary fencing.
