Thank you for reaching out so we can clarify the next steps in the process. I spoke with Claudia Bingham-Baker and the quote below does miss one important point she made, that being WSDOT wants to work together with the City to arrive at the right investment. Looking ahead, we anticipate hearing from your staff, or Bob Jewell, as the traffic model is developed so we can provide feedback along the way. This will help us avoid surprises at the eleventh hour. The results from the model are going to tell us if intersection control is warranted and the type to some extent.
While we don’t see a path that leads to disagreement, WSDOT does need to approve the modification to the State’s system before the investment can move forward. WSDOT’s primary interest is ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the intersection for all users.
